Quem não sonha em largar tudo e passar um tempo viajando pelo mundo conhecendo novas culturas e lugares paradisíacos? O casal sul-africano Chanel Cartell e Stevo Dirnberger fez justamente isso. Os dois resolveram largar suas respectivas carreiras, venderam tudo e transformaram o ato de viajar em uma missão de vida.
O casal se conheceu em 2010 em um encontro às escuras. Após algum tempo de namoro e 15 anos trabalhando com publicidade, resolveram criar o blog How Far From Home para registrar as novas aventuras pelo mundo e a nova vida que estava porvir.

A aventura Chanel e Stevo começou em março de 2015. Os primeiros meses foram repletos de belas paisagens e relatos de uma viagem perfeita. A história ganhou as páginas de diversos sites e jornais, como “Daily Mail”, “Huffington Post”, entre outros.
As imagens do casal logo fizeram sucesso nas redes sociais, onde em pouco tempo conquistaram milhares de seguidores.

Mas a realidade por traz daquelas fotos era bem outra. Após quase seis meses de aventura, quando estavam na Grécia, o dinheiro ficou curto e o casal revelou, em um post no blog, que estava lavando banheiros para “sobreviver”.
“O orçamento é muito apertado, somos definitivamente forçados a usar nossa criatividade (e conversas estimulantes) para resolver a maioria dos nossos problemas (e as crises de choro)”, escreveu Chanel. “Não deixe uma série de imagens bonitas enganá-lo. Não, não. Até agora, acho que já contabilizamos 135 banheiros lavados, 250 kg de esterco de vaca espalhados, duas toneladas de rochas retiradas com pá, 60 metros de piso colocado, 57 camas feitas e eu nem me lembro quantos copos de vinho polimos.”

A jovem conta ainda que “a realidade é brutal”. “Antes, vivíamos uma vida até confortável em Johannesburgo. Hoje, estamos na outra ponta dessa escala social. Somos limpadores de banheiros, catamos fezes de cachorros, vendemos verduras na feira”.

Tanning, picnicking, rowing a boat on the park’s lake, and strolling around the lush greenery are pretty much the best things to do here – and if you’re feeling adventurous, why not rent a Segway…you know, if you’re into that sort of thing.
